Artist Bio
With over two decades of scientific research in neural plasticity, perception, and consciousness, Isel brings a rare depth of understanding to her artistic practice. Her mixed media paintings—created using oil, wax, and natural pigments—draw on the principles of neuroscience while transcending them, transforming data into feeling, and cognition into sensation.
Isel is autistic and began honing her drawing and painting skills at a young age and she trained at Cumbria College of Art & Design in the late 1990’s, Isel first gained recognition for her precise observational botanical realism, collaborating with interior based companies and sold to private collectors. Her focus is now on the energetic and emotional terrain of the human psyche—on making visible the unseen forces that shape our inner world. Her work is intuitive yet informed by years of scientific inquiry, resulting in paintings that are both conceptually rigorous and deeply moving.
Isel is a published artist who’s work is grounded in the belief that visual experience can act as a catalyst for healing, presence, and expanded awareness. Her personal journey through cancer profoundly influenced her commitment to art as a transformative force—a way to reconnect body, mind, and spirit.
Her work has begun to attract private collectors interested in the convergence of art and consciousness, science and soul.
She lives and works in Cumbria, surrounded by beautiful landscapes that continually inform her process. Any free time she has, Isel enjoys puzzles, reading Jon Fosse, writing (working on her first book), going to the theatre, kintsugi and dog walking.
